August's East Anglian photographs.
The month started and ended with notable silver visitors. Early in the month, newly repainted Cotswold 87007 paid a return visit to Crown Point and then spent a day working between Norwich and Willesden swapping DVTs.
Network Rail got themselves into a bit of a mess diagramming a track recording train to Felixstowe with top and tailed 67s - which are banned from the branch! After half a day with the train sitting in Ipswich Yard, Cotswold came to the rescue and provided 47813 and 47316 to work the train along the branch. Interestingly DRS 37s seem to have become the regular motive power for this train on branch lines around the country, perhaps we will see them in Suffolk.
DRS have been running all over the entire East Anglian system with a pair of 20s on weedkilling trains. Mostly these were late at night, but one evening an earlier schedule allowed them to be captured in fading light at Manningtree. The pair were stopped on the main line for a Harwich train to cross in front of them, a perfect rendition of a 'Duet for turbochargers' by English Electric when they pulled away brought back a few memories!
Finally, Network Rail were back with the track recording train at the end of the month, silver EWS pet loco 67029 leading as it careered through Manningtree at what seemed to be a very optimistic speed for a facing junction... |
