| To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the closure of the Midland & Great Northern on 28th February 1959 the North Norfolk Railway held their biggest ever gala weekends at the end of February and start of March. 5 visiting locomotives together with the resident fleet provided an intensive service with ever changing locomotives at the front end.
We went up for the last day of services, starting with bright sunshine and ending with wintry showers! This was also the first time I had sampled the Gresley Quad-Art set since restoration, an excellent job and well worth the Lottery money spent on it! An extra bonus were the 'Rail Replacement Services' operated by the historic fleet of the Eastern Transport Collection. Standing in the sunshine at Holt were a pair of Bristol ECW buses in beautiful condition, both types that transported me to and from school on many occasions - I almost left the rest of the family to go on the train alone so I could rekindle the memories of Bristol Lodekkas, but they had run off with my lunch... |
