| Ex South West Trains class 170 units are currently being refurbished for First Trans Pennine Express at Clacton and then make their onward journey to Crofton across East Anglia.
On 19th September 170308 departed from Clacton and was found to be low on fuel, so an unscheduled stop was made at the Freightliner fueling point at Ipswich (clearly unexpected as several class 66s had to be hurriedly moved out of the way!) before the journey north continued. Cotswold Railways ex Fragonset 47703 has been the regular 'one' thunderbird for most of September and it was called out on the afternoon of the 20th to rescue a set that had been failed with a defective DVT at Liverpool Street. The fine September came to an end just at the same moment and I squelched back to the car at Belstead after getting my shot! 47703 also made it out on the Great Yarmouth drags on Saturday 22nd after some doubt over whether it would run. The first run was missed as we were at the Mid-Norfolk Railway (photos to follow soon) but we caught up with it near Great Yarmouth later in the day. Unfortunately the last run of the day was cancelled as the 47 was hemmed in at Norwich Thorpe as 90011 failed to start up after it's trip to the seaside and 47703 couldn't be released in time for the final drag of the day. |
